Philosophy

Cindy's Musings
December 23, 2011

Cynthia Lee SheltonI believe that everyone’s Soul has a song that needs to be sung, and a unique point of view longing to be heard. Most people don’t know that their Soul Voice matters. They feel that they are insignificant and don’t realize the greatness lying within them.

Traditional psychotherapy limits its scope as if the mind and emotions exist outside of the physical and spiritual bodies. However, my approach weaves the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual together. To look at any of these without the other is restrictive.

In our society we are often disconnected from our jobs, our families, our surroundings, and ourselves. We have lost the rhythm, the pulsing, the life force that is everywhere. When you know and experience God or Spirit, your life changes. It's as if a light bulb turns on and people really start to live and experience life in its fullness. It takes on a flow and synchronicity that is amazing to watch and to live.

HOLIDAY MUSINGS

Do you have holiday boredom? You say no. You are too busy and stressed to be bored you say. Are the holidays exciting to you? Are you busy running around like a chicken with its head cut off? Do you have a list of things to do a mile long?

I have found the last few years for me to be a HUGE relief. I decided to step away from the holiday craziness. Our family did a gift free Christmas. When we first decided it, I had to deal with feeling of guilt over the not buying. But then, when our family got together I noticed a change. Our time together was more quality time. We were relaxed instead of “harried”. We were able to just “Be” with each other. Instead of gifts, we told each other what we meant to each other. It enriched the holiday.

This year, we are doing a gift year. For me, after doing the gift free holiday, it became fun again. I was not “insane” with the gift buying. I went about it emotionally different. I knew the most important part was going to be the family’s time together. I knew if the gift I got was not the “perfect one” we would all survive it. In fact, we would still thrive. We would still laugh together. We would still love one another.

Now some of you are not close to your family, but you do spend the holidays with close friends who have become family. You are redefining the holidays for you. You are finding where the love is in your life and taking time for it. So, you might want to take the time to tell your new “family” how grateful you are that they are in your lives?

This season is about love. For some it is Christian love, for others it is spiritual love, for others it is human love. When we take time to let those around us know how special they are, we spread love. So many people rarely hear from another about what makes them unique, valued, special, and loved.
On another note, my sister decided that she wanted to do a “buy local” Christmas. This raised her awareness of the people behind the businesses; the people in our community who put their heart and souls into their businesses. I was very thankful for her decision. It opened my awareness and I realized that it stopped my boredom with the holidays. It became more about sharing and giving on a different level.

I have felt that we, as a society, are changing. I feel in the long run it will be positive. In the short term there are a lot of birthing pains, some of it good and some not so good. The past couple of years, I have been working with a lot of people who have lost their jobs. In that process, they are refining themselves, and redefining what is important to them. So even though it is difficult when people’s lives are being shook up, the redefinition of who they are in the world and their internal values is having an impact.

The angels have been talking about balance for the past several years. They have me talk about it with people all the time. They say to stop, take a breath, actually several breaths, and look at how to get the balance back in our lives. Part of the balance is fun and love. Taking the TIME for fun and love. Let me repeat this and read it slower, taking the time for fun and love. Our soul lets us know when we are in alignment with it through joy. Be at peace. Find the time to enjoy the holidays even it is taking some moments of time out of the “craziness”.
